McGaffick

Printmaker

Biography

Rebecca McGaffick was born and raised on the front range of Colorado within a family of eclectic artists and teachers. Growing up, she was surrounded by all different kinds of art, ranging from watercolor paintings to wood carving, photography, music, and more. Through road trips, hikes, and camping excursions, she fell in love with the natural world around her and was fascinated with all the tiny details and lifeforms that are waiting to be discovered. From a young age, during the school year, her weekends and evenings were always occupied with some sort of art project, while the summers were full of art camps and classes. Art was not only something to do for fun, but a way to relieve her itch to learn new things and explore more of the world around her.

In high school, she fell in love with the instrumental arts and became a prominent member of her school’s concert and marching bands. Entering college, Rebecca started her journey at Colorado Mesa University as a music education major but found that something felt like it was missing. While she tried her hardest to stay away from the visual arts, she found that missing piece in an art history class. After taking a year off school, she wound back up at CMU and began in the studio art program. Having fallen in love with the printmaking medium, uses her art to be able to explore the natural world and the details within it, often hiding details of some of her own mental health struggles within her work.
